MAGNIFICENT SEVEN TO SUE PEREZ HILTON

Perez Hilton is to be hit by a multi-million dollar federal lawsuit from the top seven paparazzi agencies in the US. Splash News, INF, Ramey, Bauer Griffin, WENN, Most Wanted and Flynet have joined forces to stop Perezhilton.com from using copyrighted images. "Perez claims he is making a fortune off exploiting pictures taken by photographers. He blatantly violates copyright and makes advertising revenue off other people's works," said Gary Morgan of Splash News. "It is time he is held accountable for his actions. We have amassed a ton of evidence from all of these agencies detailing his infringements. We have filed a letter to him giving him the chance to either pay up for all of his copyright violations or face the music. He only has a few days to decide." The seven agencies have spent the last few weeks conferring over how to stop Hilton. In an unprecedented co-operation between paparazzi and showbusiness agencies, the heads of the agencies agreed to take action. A letter was sent demanding full payment of all infringed material or face a lawsuit next week.

I hate you hyprocritcs that slag off paparazzi hiding behind the anon posting on a blog. If you hate the paparazzi fine - then make a stand - don't watch any TV shows or buy any magazines or newspapers that run their images. That would actually make a stand. Word of warning.. George Clooney tried this a couple of years ago.. his next movie bombed because no one knew about it.

I like Perez Hilton and his name is awesome. The best thing about him is that he rips people off and gets away with it.....oh, and the fact that he does not have a gay mooostosh like snidely whiplash.

Ah, well Chris, there's that little naggy web2.0 and cluetrainny thing called TRANSPARENCY. Where, pray tell, do you have such information posted on your site? As someone who has connections to a pretty comprehensive network of bloggers that go from politics to entertainment, I can tell you that many of us have been wondering who is going to start offering realistic licenses for their editorial content --a la iStockPhoto. Here. Have a cookie:Will Splash News sue themselves out of business by suing Perez Hilton? If SplashNews really understood their market, they wouldn't be shooting at Mario for the publicity stunt this is. On the contrary, they'd be using his high profile to corner the market on providing editorial content to bloggers. Splash News won't because, honestly, they don't get it.Liza Sabaterculturekitchen

Good. Perez has totally crossed the line lately with some of the crap he has posted.

Good luck getting even one dime out of that fat queer which you can all split seven ways. You so-called "magnificent seven" scumbags will be next in line after X17 anyway.

Good!!!!! About time someone put an end to his ever annoying ways.... somewhere out there TR, Lance, Matt, Lindsay, etc... are toasting champagne....

hey, i'm just wondering, if u take a picture from a webpage like splash news, and as long as u make a note or a link that u've taken it from there, i mean that must be legal, or?

Liza - Nice try on trying to stir up traffic to your own (boring) blog. Its quite hilarious how you have no understanding of how businesses work. If I came to your blog each day, stole your words and reprinted them elsewhere making myself thousands of dollars - I dont think you would be singing the same tune.Perez is a thief and you my dear are a sanctimonious bore.

Wow. Looks like Perez may have flown the coop. You don't just get a DNS error - you get a domain-doesn't-exist redirect. :O It was up a couple of hours ago.He got nasty about it, not willing to admit that his was the smallest dick in the room. In more ways than one.

Yay!!! All the best to you!! Perez is a thief and a fraud and you have my complete support!!

Chris, thanks for posting a monthly financial estimate of what Perez would have to fork out to the 7 agencies. Very interesting.---------------------------------I went to his site today and of course he sucked up to his advertisers...and he also tried to play it off like this was all no big deal:"Perception is reality, they say.Life is about turning negatives into positives and seeing the beauty in things, even Rachel Zoe's face.A journey is never fun without a little excitement and friends to support you along the way, like all of you. Some of you have been with us for over two years, since our initial incarnation as PageSixSixSix.com.And, for your unwavering support always, we are beyond grateful. We are inspired and beholden to keep on keeping on.Like a shark, we must keep on moving or die. And we're not gonna die!Thank you for giving us much-needed oxygen when we feel out for breath. And thank you to all of our wonderful advertisers, who help us buy the necessary medical equipment to deal with any unpleasantness."---------------------------------He's gonna need A LOT of "medical equipment"!!!

liza is a whore fuck you, perez sucks ass thank god he'll be broke for the rest of his life. asshole

WEAK!! I cant believe you guys are suing him! Especially Splash News Because it says SPLASH NEWS across all of your pics and that how i found your site in the first place - from the pics on PEREZ's website! It never fails that when someone starts to do well for themselves all the JEALOUS try to cash in. Its pathetic.

OK. I have no great love for the paps, but I have even LESS for Perez Hilton. I just love how he positions himself as a champion of freedom of speech (usually as justification for spewing his particular brand of misogynistic, hate-filled bile) - but has recently started CENSORING his own readers!!! The other day I tried to post a comment pointing out just how biased and hypocritical it was of Perez to hound Lindsay Lohan, while clearly acting on behalf of his repulsive friend Paris Hilton. I asked if he was being paid to act as her publicist, seeing as he is becoming more and more blatant in his choice of posts attacking Parasite's so-called "enemies". (For God's sake, how OLD are these people?? Is this junior high?)Anyway, it now looks like I - and many other people I know - are barred from posting ANYTHING on the Perez Hilton website. I posted a very calm, rational message pointing out a few home-truths, with no swearing or false statements, and yet I am now "banned". Interesting. I think he has a filter on certain words, such as "Paris Hilton", and logs IP addresses of negative posters. This is the guy that defends every malicious and (in some cases, dangerous) story that he posts, and yet can't take any criticism from his OWN READERS!I seriously hate that guy, and would love to see his bubble burst, his income disappear - ditto his sense of self-entitlement.I also wish someone would investigate whether or not he is being paid by the celebrities he promotes, and highlight his recent censorship activities. What a hypocrite.

hottie - go away. you are a clown. an idiot of the highest order. don't ever post anything ever again. you are a spastic.

This will be an interesting case to watch. What I am seeing in the comments on this blog and many others (besides "UR all jelouse!" and "Everyone else does it!!") is a real disconnect in how people define and understand the concept of "property". If Mario came into your office and stole your 8 x 10 glossies, then sold them on the street to anyone who walked by, most people would clearly recognize that as theft. But once something is in digital (non-tangible) form, a lot of people seem to not recognize that as property that belongs to someone. If I can get it by right-clicking, then I can have it.The Napster Generation ;)Property is property, and theft is theft, regardless of how easy it is to steal. "But everyone else does it!" is not a legal defense. I will give them the "UR just jelouse!" though. Most of us would be jealous as all get-out if someone were making hundreds of thousands of dollars on something they are STEALING from us.BTW, Mario perfectly understands the concept of de-valuing property. Here:http://www.perezhilton.com/topics/brangelina/brangelinas_first_public_photo_20060607.phpI found that link at Liza's CultureKitchen, by the way.

Sorry, that URL was too long. Try this:http://tinyurl.com/yhrz8h

Copyright law allows the fair use of text and images for news so the public can discuss stuff in our free society with freedom of speech not totally cramped. You'll see networks credit sources of scandals, for example, broadcasting without paying fees for images. In the TV industry, the courts apparently have ruled the limit is 24 hours, i.e., the news cycle. If you continue to use an image beyond that, it's copyright violation. Hilton would have to remove all his "news" images within 24 hours if the courts decide the TV standard applies to the internet. There is also a fair use provision under American copyright law for criticism. We are allowed to criticise people and things and pictures. Hilton's site is full of criticism, so he may be able to argue posting the pictures is for criticism.Mind you, whenever legal issues come up, it's never his attorney who speaks, it's him, and he's no legal expert, so he may be headed for bankruptcy. He's a loose canon with a stupid attitude, who isn't smart enough to get legal advice before he pisses off rich people. If he had ever shown an ounce of humility, he might find sympathy. I only see arrogance.

I truly don't understand why ANYONE would visit Perez Hilton's site anymore. You go a few times and then it is basically all the same thing. The only thing you can tell from his site is who Paris is mad at during a certain time because he makes sure to criticize that person. Is Paris paying for his site because it reads like a publicity vehicle for her. Anyway, the white little marks are stupid and kindergartenish and nothing is new. Why should I contribute to his pocketbook and arrogance by even clicking his site. His Head is big enough

I was reading 4-5 posts on this lawsuit on www.leandrotoro.com. I'm for paparazzi but looks like culture kitchen may have a point. The law had a hard time helping stars control paparazzi. The paparazzi are putting themselves under the power of a court with this case. Legally, stars can use the case to ask the court to help them. The court's gonna use that power to do what the stars have been asking, control the paparazzi -- make laws to control and limit paparazzi.

People who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones.

hope you plan to sue everyone who uses your pics....if you don't it just proves that you're jealous of the fact that people like him and take notice of him. i would have never known about you if it werent for him - you should pay him-g

I see a lot of Movie stills with a splash credit on them. is that no the same thing Perez Hilton is doing?

Perez will conitnue to gang rape the sensationalist whores like x17 for al long as he wants. They are claiming outrage at being ripped off when they are the slamphounds who publish pix of Britney's shaven delights? Spare me the moral outrage you fucking tossers, and look in the dictonionary under "life" you need to find one.

What a joke. If you don't want people to use the photos, then do not make them available.

The public does not pay to view blogs. The publich has to buy magazines to see paparazzi pictures and/or they must watch T.V. to see the paparazzi images they crave. Blogs may someday become payperview - and would become so tomorrow if bloggers could figure out a way to charge for the content displayed therein. Blogs get eyeballs and eyeballs get advertisers. Blogs with paparazzi photos as a main source of content help generate more interest in the celeb's lives by those who view the blogs. Since no one pays for blogs - why should blogs pay for content taken from other blogs? In fact, my guess is, some blogs would pay other blogs to use their images so that more people would see them and thereby generate more interest in said content.

In other words - don't upset the applecart - you big agencies are not losing anything yet are gaining enormous exposure. This Perez cat is just gonna end up closing down his blog before any lawsuit goes to court anyway - because by then he'll have his own T.V. show. And I would not want to be one of the paparazzi agencies who sued him if that happens!

THINK!

In all honesty i had never heard of Perez Hilton until i read this article (seriously). as a result i checked out his web site, and i must say it's highly amusing. i will be visiting it regularly from now on
