Your view is controversial but I agree with you. Alec was simply speaking his mind. How many parents speak their minds to their kid's faces on a daily basis when provoked? It's just that their conversations don't get recorded. His language may not have been completely appropriate but it does at least show he cares about what this daughter does and how she acts. He is even prepared to fly back across the country for a day to sort this out. And while this may be embarassing for Baldwin, imagine how humiliating this is for the girl. And whose fault is this - Alec's for losing his cool with his daughter - or someone else who leaked the tape!!!! And who did release that tape?

The judge should find out whoever leaked that tape and then send them to the county jail for a couple of months for contempt of court. its unfair on that poor little girl to have to go through this crap. why have this private family matter played out in the media?

I just read the other posts and this does NOT need to be kept private. It should be leaked to the press. This man is a threat to his daughter. Normal parents get upset with thier kids but don't leave messages like that. Kim Basinger left him for a reason and I applaud her for getting her and her daughter out of a dangerous marriage!

Interesting how we can hide behind ranting posts in judgement of this man. I agree with Chris - we don't know both sides of their story. How may of us can say that we have not lost our cool with our kids' "oh so cool" behavior at some point? It sounds to me that Kim Basinger is bent on painting her ex as a villain for whatever reason. It seems the daughter is bent on keeping her parents fighting to distract them from catching a whiff of what she might be up to. It seems that Alec is at the height of frustration with the games.

I've seen Alec with Ireland several times. He appeared to be a loving caring dad. And she seemed happy. However, I have a teenager in a NYC public high school. She can be a pill. And her classmates?...Oh dear Lord! Kim Basinger is a nut. Period. Ireland probably had that blasting coming. At that moment, "pig" was probably the nicest thing he could have called. I don't think that Chris is condoning Alec's actions or taking sides. The thoughts expressed here are a call to not judge unless you know the whole story. Having a divorce myself I've felt the frustration of not having your child with you and never having any say in how they are raised. That doesn't make Alec's statements acceptable or right, but it does give you some understanding of the frustration. If some our "bad moments" were aired to the world I'm pretty sure that we would look like complete a**holes just like he does. I hope, for the sake of Ireland, this never happens or is handed to the world like this again.

ANY parent who is honest will admit to screaming at their kid at one point or another. I've done it. I've regretted it. I've apologized profusely later because I felt like crap. I don't beat my kid. I didn't see this guy beating her either. Come on already! It happens. I'm not perfect. I make mistakes and so does EVERYONE. I try again next time to be better. I'm sure this guy will for sure! You are just as crazy as that abuser Baldwin is. This little girl will be in rehab in a couple of years and or pregnant becasue she is looking for love and acceptance from a father figure. Discipline? This is abuse. Discipline is teaching what the person did wrong - how to correct it and if necessary punishing the BEHAVIOR. Attacking the child's character, body image and self esteem is abuse not discipline and I have both been and been the parent of teenage girls. This child is not yet a teenager - she is still a child.
