Pretty well anyone who gets an ambulance ride is belted onto the stretcher both at the legs and usually at the chest as well.
They're not restraints that they put on the loonies. Those look totally different.

Those stretchers are narrow and the suspension on the ambulances aren't usually that great so most, if not all patients are belted in for their safety.

PS: I'm pissed that with so many police around, they couldn't even block the damned press from getting these sorts of photos.

West .. I agree with you on the pix .. Just horrible ... However.. the photo on Holycandy shows what appears NOT to be a seatbelt type of restraint but rather a padded tie-down. I'm pretty sure that's not routine.
