Giants’ Super Bowl ring to have 1.5 carats in diamonds

The New York Giants unveiled the design of their Super Bowl championship ring on Tuesday, a white gold sparkler that will feature about 1.5 carats in diamonds.

The new ring will even make seven-time Pro Bowl defensive end Michael Strahan happy.

Shortly after New York won the championship with a 17-14 win over the previously undefeated New England Patriots, Strahan said he wanted a “10-table ring.”

He wanted a ring that could be seen 10 tables away in a restaurant.

“There was some discussion about maybe one of the rings was too big,” said center Shaun O’Hara, who was among group of players and team executives who designed the ring with officials from Tiffany and Co.

“I threw out the fact that it was a big win, it was a huge win, so the ring should be designed accordingly,” O’Hara said. “Michael said it best when he said he wanted a 10-table ring. I think everybody is going to be very pleased with the design. It is very clean, very classy, but at the same time it is very strong.”

Leinart is No Tom Brady

It’s official. Arizona Cardinals quarterback Matt Leinart will never be confused with Tom Brady.

The “pictures” are out all over the World Wide Web, which is a landscape us Baby Boomers still don’t quite understand just yet.

The pictures in question are he in a hot tub with some college beauties, with a beer bong nearby, really not a big deal when you are still one month short of your 25th birthday.

But when you are supposed to be a savior, at least in the football sense, for one of the losingest franchises outside of Cincinnati, Ohio, they are trouble.

Unlike Brady, who already had won a Super Bowl before his 25th birthday and three by his 28th, Leinart was never under any radar. Other than some experts questioning his arm strength and mobility (the same flaws Brady allegedly had at Michigan), he was “The Man” coming out of USC.

Now nearly all experts must question Leinart’s common sense, which is 10 times worse than his other faults.
I don’t know all of Brady’s background in his early 20s. I’m assuming he had fun like the next 23 or 24 year old. But once he became “The Man,” we didn’t see any pictures, at least the embarrassing ones.

We saw a player on a mission. We saw a player who still hadn’t gotten over his selection in the draft (199th overall). We saw a young man become a legend virtually before our eyes.

With Leinart we saw potential. He had some great wins his rookie season in 2006 as well as a bevy of foolish interceptions, a given for first and second-year quarterbacks.

But we’ve never seen the ethic.

Tom Brady became the Patriots quarterback after several years in the league, studying not only the game, but also how players handled the game. Who knows what he did, what he didn't do, during his first few years in the league. He had no spotlight, he was a nobody. That was why his story was so relatable. He was not just a backup, he was behind multiple other quarterbacks his initial years in the league. Same as in college, there was always someone else who was in the spotlight, getting all the attention. This is Leinart's second year in the league, and the expectations for him are much higher than Brady had at that age. There are multiple reasons why the Brady-to-Leinart comparisons are unfair to Leinart, but that is the most obvious.

Another big differences between the two: public relations (compare the Patriots basically grooming Brady for his press conferences, etc. Kraft taking him under his wing, for public relations trips, etc during the off-season. Tom Brady has more fame and success in his pinky than Matt Leinart has ever had including his days as a superstar college QB. Tom went from Zero to Hero and had no past experiences in being a Superstar. He went from 4th string to backup to MVP in the Superbowl and to date has handled it with extreme dignity and class. He is known for hard work, being an amazing teammate and an all around great guy that no one can seem to find a bad thing to say about him (oh, and by the way, that is from the people who actually KNOW him)!

So basically Tom had more ability to screw it up so to speak that Matt Leinart who was prepared for this 'spotlight' for years now. There are no excuses for Matt only role models and Tom is at the top of that list. Rich, Single, Handsome, Successful and doing all the right things!

I'm in no way excusing Leinert's behavior. However, comparisons to Brady are unfair. Leinart has had the fame, and all that comes with it, since his early twenties. Brady spent his early twenties in relative obscurity, without the opportunities that fame bring, the opportunities that Leinart is "enjoying" right now. Even Brady admitted (still envious, obviously) that he couldn't get a girl in college. If Brady is like this (fame whore) at age 30, can you imagine what he would have been like had he been in Leinart's position: fame and all that comes with it, when he was a kid?

I liked your post re the Namath analogy. That's why I think it likely that Tom will end up marrying Gisele. It will solve his 'what do i do after football' issue. Tom clearly enjoys the (VERY) high life and his celebrity status, and yet has no real means to continue this globe-trotting lifestyle once he retires from football. He is not a great intellect, is a poor public speaker, and has limited skills outside of sports. I suppose he could join his dad's insurance business, but he strikes me as too 'full of himself' to lower himself in this way.

Gisele is at the end of her career and wants to marry and have kids and there are not a lot of young good-looking tall guys with wealth and celebrity status, who are willing to put up with a prima dona, to chose from.

Since you are an absolute idiot, let me educate you. Three year relationships usually take time to come to an official ending. I have no idea what fairy tail you live in, but I can speak for myself but I have been in two long term relationships that did not just end with one of us saying "bye"! In one relationship, in which I dated this guy for 4 years, we broke up over the course of 5 months- we went back and forth with can't living without each other to wanted to kill the other one, but never really ended it although we discussed it daily and yes there was plenty of time for me to ummmmm, pull a Moynahan and trap his ass. When you are with someone for that long, the decisions become harder and the actual breaking it off (although it is the right thing to do) takes time. The hope is it will work out, but that doesn't always happen and you part ways. Happened for me, happened for Tom and bitchet.

As far as Tom and bitchet goes, no one really knows how long it took them. But I remember the Track reporting them having issues of fighting going back to the end of September and even reporting that bitchet stormed out of a restaurant in Boston when Tom was getting too many autograph seekers for her taste (she did that often actually even prior to their breakup period).

I have no idea what happened between Tom and Bridget, I was not really following either of them, but I do know that for alot of women it does not take weeks or months to get pregnant (even in a prolonged breakup). Unfortunately, I have known one too many girls that have used a pregnancy to trap a guy and it can only take one time without being on birth control if you know exactly when you are ovulating and most women have a pretty good handle on that time. Also, it's a safe bet that they were not having as frequent sex toward the end of their relationship as they were in happier times so it would stand to reason that Tom would be suspicious of an unplanned pregnancy as her timing was pretty accurate. It is pretty obvious that Bridget planned the pregnancy. For that, I do not blame Tom at all for everything that has transpired since! His son does not have his last name nor live in the same state let alone general area. He is what he is, a part time Daddy and that is the way she wants it. Over the past year, I have noticed that Tom Brady is very talented at being a hypocrite. He says one thing and does another. Here are just a few examples:

1) He says he wants to be a role model but then pays no attention to his son and travels the planet with a panty model.

Tom doesn't need any help from his family, but if he did, they are there for him as always. Supermodel Bar Rafaeli, aka Leo DiCapro’s girlfriend, joins Somaly Mam and model Petra Nemcova at the Somaly Mam Benefit at NYC’s Tribeca Rooftop Grill on Tuesday.

At the event, The Somaly Mam Foundation featured the premiere of the movie Holly. The film tells the story about a young girl caught in the web of the sex slave trade in Cambodia and the man who tries to save her. Holly was shot on location in Cambodia, including many scenes in actual brothels in the notorious red light district of Phnom Penh.

Proceeds from the evening benefited the Somaly Mam Foundation, which aims to raising global awareness about sex slave trade.

Will the Patriots Be as Dominant in the AFC East This Season?

Simply put, the answer is no. With all the off-season moves the past few months, the New England Patriots will likely seem more human and beatable than ever.

Although the Patriots ended up retaining Randy Moss, the loss of Dante Stallworth will prove to be a tough one, especially when facing teams that feature a good pass rush and strong secondary.

Defensively, the Patriots are in shambles. Losing Asante Samuel to the Eagles and Randall Gay to the Saints creates a void that will be tough to fill. The rest of the Patriots defense needs help too because, let's face it, they're not getting any younger.

Internal problems aren't the only thing the Patriots need to look out for in 2008, either. Both the Buffalo Bills and the New York Jets were busy in the off-season, bolstering their defense and offensive line respectively.

However, the Patriots have, once again, been decimated due to salary-cap limitations. To add insult to injury, the Pats have also had their front office raided by the Falcons, who hired New England's director of college scouting, Thomas Dimitroff, as their new general manager. This move is probably going to have more of a positive effect on the Falcons than it will have a negative effect on the Patriots.

No head coach is as tireless or thorough when it comes to evaluating pro personnel and collegiate draft choices as Bill Belichick. While the Pats were hit the hardest on the defensive side of the ball, they still have a strong core remaining including three down linemen, two linebackers and two starting safeties. And offensively, they will always be a contender as long as Tom Brady is under center.

Key Additions
The Patriots did not make much of a splash in free agency this year, but hope to at least not take a step backward. They signed four defensive players who fit their style and needs. CB Jason Webster is someone they see as an untapped talent who can fit right in with their system as a starting left corner. Lewis Sanders and Fernando Bryant improve the corner position from the back end and could even challenge for starting time. SS Tank Williams is a huge safety who plays almost like a linebacker and has very good straight-line speed, but like Rodney Harrison, whom he will back up, Williams can be a liability in coverage. The Pats' only addition on offense was WR Sam Aiken, who will have a hard time seeing playing time considering the strength of the wide receiver corps currently on New England's roster.

Key Losses
The Patriots' biggest loss will be CB Asante Samuel, who is considered one of the elite corners in the NFL. Losing him will put added pressure on next year's corners because he is able to cover the opponent's No. 1 receiver by himself. Backup CB Randall Gay's versatility will also be missed because he could line up over the inside receiver or in off coverage. FS Eugene Wilson will be a good addition for the Buccaneers, but not that big of a loss for the Patriots because they think James Sanders is better. DT Rashad Moore has struggled to get playing time with four teams, so he won't be much of a loss. The Patriots' biggest loss on offense was WR Donte' Stallworth, who was their third-leading receiver and will be missed.

Remaining Questions
Can the Patriots return to the Super Bowl? Defensively, their biggest concern is probably going to be at linebacker, where they are assured of having only three of their four linebackers back because Junior Seau may not return for his 19th season. Their three current backup linebackers have very little game experience and are big question marks. As a result, Belichick could look for a linebacker on the first day of the draft, something he has traditionally not done. Cornerback is also a major concern and could be addressed in the first round, if the right player drops to the Pats, while safety is another position they could look at on Day 1. On offense, the Patriots could use some added depth at wide receiver and this should be addressed on Day 2, unless a player simply too good to pass up drops to them in the second or third round.

Some do and some don't. My parish never does Sunday weddings, but the parish I grew up in did all of their weddings on Sunday, so there really isn't anyway for us to tell you. If you are planning on marrying in that Church, be warned that you will be required to contact the Priest and meet with him at least 6 months before the wedding. Also, you will have to take Pre-Cana classes. But there is no Vatican ruling against Sunday Catholic Weddings. Some actually do count as attending mass.

Martha's Vineyard is never NASTY by the way. My Aunt had a home in Edgartown and I would go there at different times of the year. The Spring and Fall at the best times to go there. They go from 10,000 residence to 130,000 residence + tourists in the Summer. The Summer is the Worst time to be there. The Island is stunning and the restaurants and homes are amazing. It would be a quaint and beautiful location to get married and many celebrites and higher ups have, but few have married there in the Summer due to the conjestion on the island.

April on Marthas Vineyard is like coastal Mass. It is cold (ocean temps are still cold and often a NE breeze off the water keeps the temp at least 10 degrees colder than 40-50 miles in-land), rainy, cloudy and dank. I know because I live on coastal Mass and have been to the Vineyard many times in all seasons. It is a wonderful place to go in Sept and October. The summer months are (July and August)crowded and very unpleasant. The same goes for Nantucket although the winter is a bit more mild than the Vineyard. It also is lovely in the fall.

I am so glad to see a respected non gossip columnist and sports columnist say what so many of us are thinking. His reality was Bridget and he did well with her. Gisele and her cadre is not his reality and he has stumbled badly. Can he pick himself and return to himself? Well, at least one person seems to think a new Powers movie is a great idea. Boston.com is reporting that Gisele Bundchen is considering signing on as the next Powers girl, carrying on the proud tradition of Elizabeth Hurley as Vanessa Kensington, Heather Graham as Felicity Shagwell, and Beyonce Knowles as Foxxy Cleopatra. Apparently she's been given the script and plans to meet with Mike Myers' agents soon.

Bundchen, of course, is more famous for being a supermodel and dating Tom Brady than for any known acting ability. She doesn't even speak English as a first language, being from Brazil originally, so the usual dilemma of seeing a model act will probably be even worse in this case. Yeah, everything about this shrieks “bad idea,” which goes for the entire movie as well. The teenagers who made Austin Powers a hit 10 years ago have grown up, and today's teenagers don't even know who Mike Myers is. Who on earth actually wants to see this movie? If Love Guru is a flop, maybe we can be spared from an Austin Powers reboot. It seems like our only hope. Get that boycott started!

Over the weekend, rumours emerged linking supermodel Gisele Bundchen to the new, fourth, Austin Powers film. I duly reported the speculation that she was set to be the new Austin Powers girl. Unfortunately it seems that she can’t be, because there isn’t going to be a new Austin Powers film.

Digital Spy are reporting that Michael McCullers, the writer of the previous two films in the comedy spy series, has rubbished the claims, saying he has no knowledge of any new film.

“I don’t know. I see those rumours like everyone else. I think a lot of them are just rumours. I had not heard that particular rumour.”

“I wait for the phone to ring on that one, you know what I mean? That’s my role in that.”

Which begs the question: Where did The Boston Globe, who originated the story, get their information from? I’d suggest that whoever it was deserves to be ignored from now on.

Thank Goodness for the Giants

Man I'm sick of people talking about the Patriots as both a dynasty and the greatest team ever. Given the beating the Giants dished out to them today in Superbowl, hopefully thats over now. It was an exciting game and the score was close, but the Giants clearly outplayed the Patriots. And Tom Brady as one of the best QBs ever? What a joke.
3 Superbowl wins by 3 points each, the tuck rule against the Raiders, the confirmed cheating this year, the allegations of cheating in prior Superbowls, increased parity in the league and a heck of a lot of breaks going their way... The Patriots just haven't ever been dominant the way that 49ers, Cowboys, Steelers and other dynasties were. Even this year, they really got lucky to beat the Colts, Eagles, Chargers, Ravens and Giants. Sure great teams pull-out tough wins, but when the breaks always go one team's way, its time to start moderating their greatness with a little bit of fortune.
Both Brady and the Patriots are good, in fact they are very good, but they're not great. And definitely not all time great.

I don't think it has sunk in yet with you, but Tom didn't lose the SB it was the "O" line that could not protect him. Evidently you don't understand football to realize a QB has to be [protected in order to pass etc to the Receivers.

They got to Tom because I tink the Offensive line was tired out. They played a terrific season & they just ran out a little too soon otherwise Tom Brady would be enjoying his 4th SB.

So ya, basically, Tom Brady lost the SB. Not his O line as everyone thinks of it. If he was able to scramble (like Eli did) or stay up instead of falling down when a defender got close, he might have won the game. That was the difference - his O line is only a part of his play. If he had been "notified" when the defense was coming at him like previous SBs maybe he would have performed better. But no feeds coming in to warn him and prepare him, he could not read the game... Wow, after 8 months of football and vacationing, the deadbeat decides to spend time with his son. April 17, 2008 -- Here's the photo that will have actress Bridget Moynahan crying, "Interference!"

It's Gisele Bundchen, the Brazilian supermodel for whom quarterback Tom Brady dumped the pregnant Moynahan, carrying the actress' son by Brady while the Super Bowl loser holds the door.

It's the first picture of Mr. 18-1 with 8-month-old John Edward Thomas (his initials spell JET for the New York football team) Moynahan. He, the boy and Bundchen spent a leisurely day together in Brentwood, Calif.

Bundchen and the New England Patriots star became teammates shortly after he dropped Moynahan in late 2006 when she was pregnant with John.

Liz Smith reported last weekend that Bundchen has been seen sporting a large diamond ring and she allegedly told a salon worker, "Tom bought it for me at Tiffany's," but there is no word if the two are officially engaged. Brady's rep didn't return calls for comment.

Moynahan has custody of John, but Brady was present at the child's birth in Santa Monica last August.

But weren't these same people calling out Brady for not spending enough time with the kid? And it's not as if Gisele Bundchen is going to replace JET Moynahan's mother. That was bitchy, but it seems as if all parties involved in Babbydaddygate are trying to work something out that is good for the kid.

I disagree that John doesn't know who is or for that matter who isn't holding him. John knows who his mother is and he knows it's not Gisele.

This whole picture is sad. On the one hand, yes it is good that Brady is finally spending time with John although as many of you have pointed out, one visit does not make him father of the year. I won't be giving him a pat on the back either and saying,"thatta boy Tommy" because he shouldn't need any encouragment nor should he get any praise for seeing his son.

On the other hand the fact that Gisele is there is really an annoyance. These two can't even fart without the other being right behind to smell it. He needs to ditch the bitch when he goes to see his son. His 1st, 2nd, and 3rd priority should be to spend as much time as he can with John. His next priority should be to at the very least attempt to repair the damage he caused to the relationship he had with the mother of his child. It's a shame to me that Brady and Bridget can't do things together with John in the same way that Matt Leinart and the mother of his child do. And believe, I totally understand where Bridget is coming from and why she appears to want to have no contact with him.

It will be interesting to see if Tom has the decency to do something for Bridget on Mothers day which is less than a month or way or will he spend it with his shadow.

One other thing that is interesting is that someone on the BOston herald site wrote something like they actually new Tom. They talked about how he has ditched EVERYTHING to spend every waking moment with Gisele. The person seems really believable when consider that Brady appears not to spend as much time with his family as he used to.

John do know that Bridget is his mother because he is around her everyday. I had never seen John wear a pacifier when he is around Bridget. Gisele probably put it in his mouth because she couldn't handle his crying. I won't still give Tom the father of the year award yet. He need to bond with his son without Gisele.

If you want to check the Longmeadow phone book you will see that the Moynahans are listed as living in Longmeadow not E. Longmeadow & there are no others but the parents lving in this general area. I go by their house when I go shopping altho I never knew them or her.

I don't know where her brothers live. they perhaps live in your part of the state but they are not listed in our phone book here.

I am not going to divulge my town but I can tell you that I do live in this part of the state.

Did you state you lived in a coastal town in Mass & did you give the name of it. I had not seen that.

Jeez, you think Bridget Moynahan might have been sending a Giant message to Tom Brady with her bag? We sure do - after all, we caught her right after meeting with her former beau!

Yesterday afternoon, Bridget was supposed to meet up with Tom and Giselle to drop off John Henry for another visit. Unfortunately, they all got spooked when they spotted the paps and scuttled the switchover for a few hours until they could get a little privacy. However, New England was given the weakest strength of schedule in the NFL meaning they have the most favorable or easiest schedule in 2008. While it doesn't seem fair to give a 16-0 team the easiest schedule in the NFL consider how terrible the AFC east competition is. The Patriots play the Dolphins (1-15), Jets (4-12) and Bills (7-9) each twice. This is one of the reasons for New England's soft schedule.

And ....

It's unthinkable that New England will be able to replicate the magic from their 16-0 2007 season. However, when you look down their schedule it seems like only three teams pose a serious threat to defeating the Patriots (San Diego, Indianapolis and Pittsburgh). I think New England will drop one or two of those games and will be upset by a surprise team once. However, with a schedule as easy as theirs is and such an explosive offense I think New England will finish at 13-3 and easily win the AFC east for the sixth straight season.

Gisele is not one of my favorites when it comes to the Victoria’s Secret models but she has some pics that make her look better then all of them. Her one negative has always been her face as it is not as “pretty” as other models like Adriana Lima nor Miranda Kerr, but her body is crazy. Gisele is not one of my favorites when it comes to the Victoria’s Secret models but she has some pics that make her look better then all of them. Her one negative has always been her face as it is not as “pretty” as other models like Adriana Lima nor Miranda Kerr, but her body is crazy. Another detrimental move that she pulled on her part is that she is dating the overrated douche known as Tom Brady, sure he is a goodlooking guy and I’m sure that is all that she cares about but he made his fame being a little better then average QB playing in a good system and that in my books makes him one lucky mofo. Oh, Tom Brady. You may love New York, but it seems the feeling is not mutual. First there was that thing against the Giants in Arizona that we still don’t want to talk about, and now Law & Order: SVU branded “a pro football player who wears No. 12, has a cleft chin and a supermodel galpal, [and] plays in a red-and-blue stadium” a suspect in the murder of his secret gay lover in its most recent episode “The Closet.”

While Bostonist doesn’t think portraying Tom Terrific’s doppelganger as gay is insulting, calling him a murderer certainly is. Not to mention that the dead boyfriend is merely an investment banker. Come on now L & O, our boy could do better than that! It couldn’t at least have been a matinée-idol actor or Greek shipping magnet? We’re also a little disturbed by the implication that being an athlete in the closet could drive one to murder, but this is Law & Order: No Body, No Show, so we’ll let that pass.

Anyway, the episode fictionalized away the part where our dreamboat quarterback has a dreamboat baby, but we imagine the precocious tyke will have something to say about this sad situation.

Law & Order Storyline Looks Eerily Similar to a Certain New England QB

Tuesday night's "Law & Order: SVU" (a show my wife watches) had a storyline about a professional quarterback who wears the #12, plays for a team that wears blue and red, dates a supermodel and is one of the top QBs in the league. Sounds like a certain MVP named Tom Brady, doesn't it.

Oh, and the character is also the main suspect in a gay murder.

AA grabbed this quote from the Boston Herald:

Anyway, the QB ends up getting arrested and convicted for the crime - even though someone else did it - but who cares about any of that? We're still trying to get over the image of the faux Brady in the faux Gillette Stadium being questioned by the faux detectives during practice. We damn near fell off the couch!

We rang up team spokesguy Stacey James, who was shocked - shocked! - at the "SVU" storyline, which, as you know, is usually "ripped from the headlines." But James declined comment.

A spokeswoman for NBC, which airs the show created by Dick Wolf, who grew up in New York - but, oddly, went to high school at Bill Belichick's alma mater, Phillips Academy in Andover - also had little to say.

"NBC has no comment," said Amanda Ruisi. "L & O is fiction."

This New York-Boston thing is getting out of hand. You still have more World Series rings and you just beat them in the Super Bowl. Lay off! Or, keep going because it is hilarious!

If you didn't know, L&O: SVU takes place in New York and Brady plays for New England. And while I'm sure that this is just a fictional character invented by the writing staff there, it is quite funny that they'd add the team color scheme, the clef chin, supermodel lover and the fact he wears the #12 to it (you can see a picture of what the QB looked like here).

This comes a few weeks after "South Park" ragged on Bill Belichick. No word if there are any Randy Moss characterizations looming.

Rumor Busted: No Austin Powers 4 on the Way

There were some reports floating around earlier this month that a script was written and that supermodel Gisele Bundchen was in talks to star in Austin Powers 4. Well, according to Seth Green, that is completely untrue.

Green has appeared in all three films as Dr. Evil’s son and said he has heard nothing about this supposed script.

“I’ll tell you what,” he declared. “If a script for ‘Austin Powers 4’ gets written and then it gets greenlit by whatever version of New Line is still making movies, and everybody agrees to do it, then we’ll have something to talk about. But at this point, ‘Austin Powers 4’ is nothing more than something Mike Myers talked about off-handedly during the ‘Shrek’ press.”

Personally, I hated the third Austin Powers film and was not amused at all. I’d be happy if a fourth film never saw the light of day, but I know a few people who would disagree with me. To each his own.

The 1999 pic, by fashion photographer Michael Comte, shows the bare-breasted Brazilian supermodel smoking a butt and looking like she just rolled out of bed after a raaaather hard night!

Or, as the Christie’s catalogue describes it: “Comte’s image, accentuated by smudged eye make-up and half-smoked cigarette, proposes an edgy interpretation of modern glamour.”

The pic, taken for Italian Vogue, is estimated to go for something in the neighborhood of $11,000 to $15,000. Nice neighborhood!

But Comte’s 1993 photo of a nude Carla Bruni - now the first lady of France - sold for a whopping $91,000 earlier this month and an Irving Penn photo of Gi brought in more than $150,000 recently, so the sky’s the limit.
