Olympic Golden Boy Michael Phelps Counts The Calories

American swimmer and multiple Olympic gold medal winner Michael Phelps has been telling NBC TV about his amazing diet. The athlete, who has already won 5 gold medals at the Beijing Olympics at the time of writing, described his voracious appetite: he starts off with three-fried egg sandwiches with cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, fried onions and mayonnaise. He then eats a five-egg omelet, a bowl of grits, three slices of French toast, three chocolate chip pancakes and two cups of coffee. For lunch the hungry swimmer will eat a pound of pasta, two ham and cheese sandwiches with mayonnaise and 1,000 calories worth of energy drinks.
At the end of the day Phelps eats another pound of pasta for dinner, an entire pizza and another 1,000 calories worth of energy drinks.
This totals to a 12,000 calorie intake, which is 6 times what an average man eats. He is hoping this incredible amount of food will help power him to the 8 Olympic gold medals that Phelps wants to win at the Beijing Olympics. Michael Phelps also won 6 gold medals and 2 bronze medals at the 2004 Athens Olympics.

It's not 6 times ... the average for a male is 2500 Kcal a day.
