It seems that part of legendary animator Walt Disney's life is to be turned into an opera. Philip Glass has been commissioned by the New York City Opera to create a piece of work based on "The Perfect American" by Peter Stephan Jungk. The tale is about a fictional cartoonist who worked with Walt Disney in the 1940s and 1950s, the opera is set to open in the 2012-13 season. Walt Disney, who died in 1966, created Mickey Mouse in 1928 with the help of Ub Iwerks.
Philip Glass is a well regarded classical music composer who has scored films such as "The Hours", "Notes On A Scandal" and "The Truman Show". The pictures in our gallery are from the 50th anniversary celebrations of Disneyland.
