The Grey's Anatomy star and her musician hubby recently announced they were adopting a baby from Korea.
"It is a little girl and she'll be 10 months at the end this month."
The couple, who has decided to name their daughter Nayleigh, began the process six months ago.
"She is a special needs baby and because of that it all moved so much faster. They wanted to get her to us as quickly as possible,
Adoption is nothing new to Kat, whose sister Meg is also a Korean-adoptee.
"My parents adopted her [Meg] in the '70s. I just grew up that way and she's one of my bestest friends and she's my sister, too. I just felt like I kind of want that in my family, too."
Adding:
Heigl isn't the only Grey's star expecting...Ellen Pompeo is due next month and it's rumored that Eric Dane's wife Rebecca Gayheart also has a bun in the oven."I just always knew that this is something I wanted to do."
