In a bizarre plea deal, these two
women have agreed to hold up signs admitting to their crimes in
exchange for no jail time.
Both 56-year-old Evelyn Border and 35-year-old Tina Griekspoor stood outside a Pennsylvania courthouse for four-and-a-half hours on Tuesday brandishing signs that read: "I stole from a 9-year-old girl on her birthday! Don't steal or this could happen to you!"
The women admitted to stealing a giftcard from the nine-year-old child after she left it on a shelf in a WalMart store. Because the women agreed to hold the signs, Bedford County District Attorney Bill Higgins says he'll ask for probation instead of jail when they plead guilty to the theft.
The girl's mother said she planned to drive by the Bedford County courthouse to teach her daughter the importance of obeying the law.
