It's the rags to riches movie that's won over millions of movie fans around the world. The story of Slumdog Millionaire, a fairy tale that even Hollywood's top script writers could hardly have imagined.
The Dickensian tale of a remarkable young man's education, poverty, abandonment and true love has been an awards show juggernaut. The critical darling collected awards and blazed a trail of acclaim, making stars and household names out of its cast of unknowns.
Prime among them, Dev Patel who stars as the laconic slumdog underdog in the movie, earning the heart of not only the cinema goers but also the beautiful Freida Pinto, the woman Patel love and lost.
Aside from awards and stardom, the movie, under the direction of Danny Boyle, has achieved the Hollywood triple crown of cultural relevance, critical glorification and box office performance.
But, like most great works of art, both praise and protest have been heaped on Slumdog Millionaire. But nothing can tarnish either the uplifting movie's goodwill or the massive haul of awards and box office receipts that have followed.
